CHARLOTTE, N.C.– The Queens University of Charlotte women's golf team completed play this afternoon in the Battle for Royalty at TPC Piper Glen in fourth place overall after shaving nine points off their first-round score to total a 657 (333-324). Palm Beach Atlantic took the top spot after recording a 648 (326-322) while Southern Indiana finished second with a 652 (324-328)
"I'm proud of the ladies for improving our team score today, but I believe we left a lot out on the golf course," Queens head women's golf coach
Meggan Bunker stated. "This team is a better team than the scores we are producing."
Charleigh Hodges finished tied for fifth place with a score of 162 (83-79) to lead the Royals.
Kathleen Gibbs followed scoring a 163 (81-82) to tie for seventh place while
Peyton Gillespie totaled a 164 (85-79) to tie for 11
th place.
Emelia Pack completed the Royals' team score carding a 168 (84-84) to tie for 20
th place.
Competing as an individual,
Sydney Lia scored a 166 (86-80) to tie for 16
th.
Oriana Jerez also entered the event as an individual and finished the day 28
th with a 175 (90-85).
Southern Indiana's Abbey Leighty led all golfers at the end of round two after carding a 156 (75-81)
"With two weeks of practice before Catawba's invitational, the plan is to get the ladies dialed in with their swings and get them feeling more confident over the golf ball," Bunker continued. I enjoyed hosting at our home course, TPC Piper Glen, and look forward to hosting again next season."
Queens will be back in action in the Rendleman Invitational hosted by Catawba College, October 7-8.
