No. 10 Queens Tames Cobras to Extend Win Streak to Six

CHARLOTTE, N.C.  –  The Queens University of Charlotte men's lacrosse team remains perfect at 4-0 in South Atlantic Conference play after grabbing a 17-6 win over Coker College at home this afternoon. With the win, the 10th-ranked Royals improve to 9-1 on the year while the Cobras drop to 5-6 on the year and 2-3 in league play.
 
Kealan Pilon led the Royals' offense with five points on three goals and two assists while Jesse Oliver recorded a hat trick as well. Laszlo Henning added three points on two goals and one assist and Reed Murphy and Adam Barry chipped in with two goals each. Kevin Barry recorded four points on one goal and three assists. In goal, Kyle Hornik totaled six saves in 37:37 for the win. Anthony Valenza also saw time in the net tallying five saves.
 
Queens opened today's game grabbing a 2-0 lead in the first quarter. However, the Cobras would cut the lead to one in the second quarter with a goal at 12:16 that gave the game a 3-2 score. Queens then outscored Coker, 8-1, in the remaining minutes of the quarter closing with seven in a row to take an 11-3 lead into the halftime break.
 
A goal from Coker's Nicholas Maddox at 11:45 in the third ended the Cobras' scoring drought, but the excitement for the visiting team would be short-lived as the Royals responded with four unanswered points to increase their lead to 11, 15-4, heading into the final 15 minutes of play. Both teams then added a pair of goals to the board in the fourth to give the game its final score, 17-6.
 
Queens outshot Coker 44-33, putting 25 shots on goal. The Royals also won 18-of-27 face-offs with Drew Flack winning all 17. Flack also totaled 11 ground balls to lead all on the field. The Royals led with 28 in the game.
 
Coker was led by Joe Venazio who recorded two goals. Goalkeeper Chris Stallings totaled eight saves.
 
The Royals will be on the road for their next three games making their first stop at Mars Hill University on Saturday, April 6. Play is scheduled to begin at noon.
