CLEMSON, S.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's rugby team completed their spring season with a perfect 8-0 record in the Mason-Dixon Conference as they defeated the Tigers of Clemson University Friday night, 41-12.
The Royals were led by junior
Antares Lance who recorded four tries in the win. Sophomore
Abby Tobias also tallied one try and three successful conversions for Queens.
MiKayla Tatum and
Debora Tessou each chipped in one try as well.
In the first half of play, Queens saw a try from Tobias just six minutes into play, who was followed by Lance adding her first try of the game to the board to make the score 10-0 early on the Tigers.
The Royals continued to shut out Clemson in the first half with tries from both Tessou and Lance and two conversions from Tobias to make the halftime score 24-0.
Clemson would add a try to start the second half to make the score 24-5, but Queens would answer just five minutes later with a try from Tatum (29-5). Tobias recorded her third conversion of the match shortly after.
Queens saw another try and conversion from the Tigers (31-12), but Lance would close the match with her final two tries to make the final score 41-12.
With an 8-0 record, Queens finishes first in the southern division of the Mason-Dixon Conference and await the results of seeding to play a cross-over match against the fourth-seeded north division opponent on Saturday, March 30 in Charlotte, N.C. The Royals will be hosting their second Queens Cup 7s Tournament next beginning Saturday, March 23-24, with both their NSCRO and Division I squads competing. The tournament is a qualifying event for future 7-a-side collegiate national tournaments.
