CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Leading a come-from-behind charge after falling behind early, the Queens University of Charlotte men's wrestling team won four consecutive matches to take a 10-point advantage with four bouts to go against Coker College on Sunday afternoon from the DeLoach Center in Hartsville, S.C. However, needing to respond, the Cobras rattled off four-straight wins of their own to retake the lead, this time for good, going on to win the South Atlantic Conference Carolinas dual by a final score of 22-16.
Coker picks up its second win and improves to 2-10 on the season, while Queens drops to 0-16 in its first season at the NCAA Division II level.
After falling behind 6-0 after two matches, Queens earned wins in the next four contests to take a 16-6 lead.
Devinaire Hayes put the Royals on the board for the first time of the day and tied the score at six points apiece with a pin over Chase Clark at 2:27.
Jude Lloyd followed up his Royals teammate with his second consecutive win, a powerful performance that saw him overtake Coker's Khyree Alexander via a 18-8 major decision.
Continuing the momentum, Queens'
Micah Marcin then beat Jaylon McCalsan by a 7-3 decision, before
Stephon Halliburton secured a dramatic 4-2 sudden victory to cap off the Royals' 16 unanswered points.
However, Coker went on to score the next 16 points over the course of the meet's final four matches to escape with the win.
The Royals will be back on the road in their next meet as they travel to Newberry, S.C. for another conference matchup, this time against Newberry College. The meet is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 7 at 7 p.m.
