Royals hold Bears to season-low 34.8-percent shooting

CHARLOTTE, N.C. –  On Saturday at the Levine Center, the No. 11/12 Queens University of Charlotte men's basketball team (7-1, 2-0 SAC) posted its best defensive performance of the season, holding Lenoir-Rhyne University (4-3, 0-2 SAC) to 34.8-percent shooting to earn an 82-68 victory. However, after the first media timeout, Queens scored the next six, capped by a jumper from Peanut Cunningham that briefly gave the Royals a 12-10 lead with 11:54 remaining in the first.

In a first half that featured six lead changes, Queens seized control of the game with a 14-0 run capped by Patterson's second of three made 3-pointers, giving the Royals a 28-18 edge with 7:20 remaining in the frame. Queens led 40-34 at halftime.

The Royals opened the second half on a 6-0 individual run by Rains, stretching the lead to 12, 46-34, with 17:31 to play. Queens led for the entirety of the second half, expanding the lead to 20 points, 77-57, on a free throw by Rains with 4:30 left.

Queens shot 50.8 percent from the field and 41.4 percent from the free-throw line. The Royals outrebounded the Bears, 50-33, and outscored LR in the paint, 34-22.
Lenoir-Rhyne was led by 20 points from Darius Simmons. Gunn, the team's leading scorer, was held to 10 points.
