Matthews, NC - The Queens University of Charlotte women's soccer team (13-6-1; 6-4 SAC) fell short of knocking off the Wingate Bulldogs (13-3-2; 7-2-1 SAC) in the South Atlantic Conference Tournament semifinals by a final score of 1-0.
Following their momentous upset win at third-seeded Carson-Newman in the quarterfinals, The Royals held Wingate scoreless in the first half entering halftime with the game tied. The second-seeded Bulldogs took control early in the second half, however, with a goal from Brianna Ditillo in the 56'th minute forcing Queens to play from behind. Queens limited the damage to one score thanks to a worldly effort from freshman goalkeeper
Erica Turner who finished with a career-high 14 saves.
Wingate outshot Queens 20-8 with 10 more shots on goal. Turner's 14 saves crosses the century mark with 102 saves for the 2019 season.
Wingate advances to play Lincoln Memorial in the South Atlantic Conference Championship match. Queens awaits its potential NCAA Tournament destiny in the NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Selection Show on Monday, November 18th at 6 p.m.Â
