Queens Victorious in Non-Conference Meeting with Limestone

Charlotte - The Queens University of Charlotte women's soccer team (7-4-1; 2-3 SAC) earned a hard-fought victory over Limestone (4-5; 3-2 CC) scoring the winning goal in the 80th minute to win by a final score of 2-1.

After several close shots on goal for Queens early in the match, junior forward Emma Rose Stockton netted her first goal of the season on a high lofting chip that sailed over the head of Saints goalkeeper, Taylin Jean garnering the Royals a 1-0 advantage. Sound defensive play maintained the lead through half-time until the Saints tied the match on a corner kick by Hannah Phillips that was nodded in by Ellie Fleming.

The match maintained an even back-and-forth pace with Queens holding slight advantages in the shots categories. With less than 10 minutes to play, Queens broke free of the tie with its two leading scorers Lulu Phan and Nia Gaither connecting for Gaither's fifth goal of the season. Queens held on to its one-score lead courtesy of smothering defense in the final ten minutes securing a victory.

Queens is back at home Saturday, October 12th for another non-conference regional matchup with Shaw University at 4 p.m.
