GAFFNEY, S.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's wrestling team opened conference competition on Tuesday night against Limestone in Gaffney, S.C. The Royals had three wrestlers pick up wins over the Saints, but ultimately fell by a final score of 36-10.
Melvin Rubio,
Jude Lloyd and
Noah Curreri all picked up individual wins for the Royals.
The meet marked the first conference meet for Queens against a fellow member of the South Atlantic Conference Carolinas conference.
Rubio led the meet off for Queens in the 125 weight class by defeating James Sass of Limestone by decision, 12-5. It's the fifth consecutive dual meet for Rubio that he has led off by earning points for the Royals.
In the 149 weight class, Lloyd also won via decision as he beat Limestone's Phil Ruiz 5-3 to secure his second-straight victory.
In the 184 weight class, Curreri, the reigning South Atlantic Conference Carolinas Wrestler of the Week, handled the Saints' Hayden Prince with ease, outscoring him 12-3. Curreri improves to 17-4 in 21 matches this season.
Queens will have only two days of rest before traveling to Kutztown, Pennsylvania for the Kutztown Duals on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 18-19.
