ALLEN, Texas – Devinaire Hayes and Noah Curreri each took home individual titles, as the Queens University of Charlotte wrestling team capped its inaugural season with a fifth-place finish, out of 79 competing teams, at the National Collegiate Wrestling Association (NCWA) National Championships on Sunday. Queens was the only team to complete the tournament with multiple national champions.

The Royals compiled a team score of 117, two points back of Brigham Young University in fourth place. Liberty University won the team title with a score of 156.5.

Hayes won the national championship at 141 pounds, after defeating Tyler Sage of the University of Florida by a 3-1 decision in the title match. He finished the tournament with a 5-0 record.

Curreri edged Shane Brown of Akron University by a 3-1 decision to finish with a 6-0 record and claim the national championship at 174 pounds.

Additionally, Melvin Rubio, Noah Gilbert, and Stephon Halliburton all earned All-America honors as a result of their finishes.

At 125, Rubio lost in the semifinals to Colton Messick of the Apprentice School, 13-10, before rebounding to claim third place over Deonte Carter of the University of Maryland Baltimore County. Rubio won the third-place match by tech fall, 17-2, at 4:44 and finished the tournament 5-1.

At 133, Noah Gilbert placed fourth after compiling a 3-2 record. He won his first three matches, before falling to De'Ante Evans of the University of Toledo by a 2-1 decision in the semis. Gilbert then dropped the third-place match to Justus Griffith of the University of Central Florida 5-3.

At 165 Stephon Halliburton went 4-2, taking eighth-place.
