Three Second Half Goals Propel Royals to 3-1 Win Over Bears

HICKORY, N.C. – After falling behind a goal in the first half, the Queens University of Charlotte women's soccer team (6-4; 2-3) retaliated with three unanswered goals in under 13 minutes in the second half to down conference foe Lenoir-Rhyne, 3-1, from Moretz Athletic Complex.

For Queens, Dani Diaz, Lulu Phan and Charlotte Ring, the team's three leading goal scorers, all notched goals to help the Royals erase a first-half deficit en route to picking up their second conference win and sixth overall victory of the season.

With the win, Queens has now won three of its past four matches to cap off its fourth consecutive game on the road.

While the Bears outshot the Royals by a slim 17-14 margin, Queens took the most advantage of its scoring opportunities as it put 10 of its 14 shots on goal to Lenoir-Rhyne's six. Coming off a nine-save match, a season high, Royals' goalkeeper Rachel Quest recorded five saves and has now allowed only three goals over the course of the four-game road trip.

Diaz scored the first goal for Queens to tie the match at one goal apiece in the 52nd minute of play. Shortly after, Phan capitalized on a ball from Ring and found the back of the net in the 62nd minute for a team-leading seventh time this season to give the Royals a one-score advantage. Ring then struck for a goal of her own merely two minutes later to give Queens a commanding 3-1 lead, her fifth score of her senior campaign.

After playing seven of its last eight matches on the road, Queens will return home to begin a four-game homestand beginning with a conference clash with Carson-Newman University on Saturday, Oct. 13 at 5:00 p.m.
