CHARLOTTE, N.C. –The Queens University of Charlotte women's soccer team opened their season tonight at Dickson Field against Young Harris College picking up a 5-1 win. The win helps the Royals open their season at 1-0 for the first time since the 2013 season. The Mountain Lions begin their year at 0-1.

Charlotte Ring opened tonight's scoring for the Royals in the 16
th minute of play after receiving a lofted ball at the top of the box and finishing with a bicycle kick in the left upper 90. Two minutes later
Alana Jefferson put another one in the back of the net, off of a deflection in the box, setting the score at 2-0. Young Harris would find a response late in the half when Ansley Garrison scored in the 41
st minute giving the game a 2-1 score at the break.

In the second half, Jefferson grabbed her second goal of the night in the 48
th minute of action, receiving the ball outside the 18-yard box where she got a clean strike finishing right over the Young Harris goalkeeper Nicole Medeiros. Freshman
Jordan Winters followed collecting her first goal of her collegiate career in the 83
rd minute as Medeiros stepped off her line creating space for Winters to slip the ball past her. Three minutes later Emma Rose Stockton was pulled down in the box creating a penalty kick opportunity for the Royals. Jefferson would take advantage adding her third goal to the board and grabbing a hat trick for the night.

Queens dominated on the offensive end this evening outshooting the Mountain Lions, 22-5, putting 13 shots on goal to Young Harris' two. Goalkeeper
Rachel Quest picked up the win for Queens after totaling one save. Young Harris' Medeiros recorded eight saves on the night.

The Royals will return home for their second game of the season on Saturday, September 2 at 5 p.m. when they will take on the University of Tampa in a non-conference match at the Queens Sports Complex.
