Royals Suffer Sweep to Pacers

Charlotte, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte softball team (14-9) hosted the University of South Carolina-Aiken (10-6-1) today in their fourth home series of the season. The Royals fell in the first 6-2 before dropping the second game 13-3.

The Pacers were the first to put runs on the board, seeing multiple hits in their first at bat. They would make their way around the plates four times to take the early lead.

Queens would hold the Pacers at four runs with solid defense in the following innings. However, in the top of the fifth, Hannah Price would single up the middle to bring teammate Chandler Terrapin home increasing the lead to 5-0. With a single from Kristan Lowery, Brielle Jungblut crossed home plate for the sixth run in the team's next at bat.

With bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth, Sydney Ditto would put the Royals on the board after a wild pitch allowed her to escape to home. The Royals added another run after a single from Alyssa Strickler allowed Brooke Sanford to reach home plate (6-2).

The Pacers would record six RBI's off of 11 hits. Hayley Elkins (5-3) stood all seven innings in the circle.  She recorded nine strikeouts facing 29 batters. Courtney Pearson would pitch for the Royals adding seven strikeouts to her total of 82 strikeouts this season.

In the second game, Queens put themselves on the board first with a hit into right field from Abby Lathan to bring in Ditto (1-0). The Pacers would tie up the score 1-1 after a double from Elkins scored Price.

After previously hitting a triple, Sydney Kate Murphy would cross home plate off a hit from Lowery. The Pacers continued to add to the score finding a two-run homerun from Terrapin over the left center wall (4-1).

Queens saw a tough start to the third inning giving up another eight runs to make the score 12-1. However, the team added to the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth as Allison Lopez hit a homerun to bring Strickler home with her (12-3).

However, the game would conclude after five innings of play.

Lopez (L 0-2) and Evie Scott would each see time in the circle for the Royals facing 32 batters combined. Chandler Terrapin (W 4-3) would pitch for the Pacers recording seven strikeouts facing 22 batters.

Queens will travel to Francis Marion University next Tuesday, March 14 in another double header. First pitch is set for 4 P.M.
