HARTSVILLE, S.C. – Playing one of the top teams in the South Atlantic Conference, the Queens University of Charlotte (14-17, 0-4) fell by the identical final of 6-1 in both contests at Coker College (25-9, 2-2) on Wednesday, March 22 at Saleeby-Stokes Field.

Game One: Coker 6, Queens 1
The Royals opened the top of the first with Sydney Ditto and Brooke Sanford reaching base by a walk and infield single, respectively.  Three batters later, Sabrina Martinez got Queens off to an early lead as she drove in Brooke Sanford for a 1-0 advantage. 

After QU starting pitcher Courtney Pearson retired the Cobras lineup in order in the bottom of the first, Coker came back to take the lead with a two-run bottom of the second. Allyson High and Riley Morris drove in the pair of runs for the Cobras.

The action picked back up again in the fourth inning when Queens put runners on the corners, but with two outs already registered CC's Christine Carver wiggled off the hook with a foul out down the right field line.

Queens' missed opportunity came back to haunt them as Coker plated three in the bottom of the fourth to stake a 5-1 lead.

The Cobras went on add one more run in the fifth inning, on a Maria Williamson RBI double, to close out the 6-1 victory. 

Game Two: Coker 6, Queens 1
The Cobras struck first in the second game of the doubleheader as they put two on the scoreboard in the second inning. Maria Williamson supplied a one-out RBI double and Hannah Price had a two-out RBI single.
 
After leaving two on base in the second inning, CC's Williamson led the third inning off with a solo homerun to right field to stake a 3-0 lead.

Coker went on to grow the lead to as much as 6-0 before the Royals finally found a little bit of an offensive groove in the sixth inning.

With two outs, Ashton Whitaker began a rally with when she drove a single into centerfield. After Skye Moore came into pinch run for Whitaker, Abby Lathan earned a base due to a hit-by-pitch. Now, with runners on first and second, Elaina Frantellizzi drove Whitaker home with a base knock to centerfield.

The Royals had hoped to plate a few more runs with two runners still on base, but Coker was able induce a fielder's choice in the next at bat. That ended up being the last real chance for QU as the Cobras held on for the victory.

Queens will return to the friendly confines of Park Road Park this upcoming Saturday, March 25 when they host Tusculum College. Game times are set for 1 and 3 p.m., respectively.
