CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte wrestling team will host Belmont Abbey College in the program's first ever home dual meet on Tuesday, Nov. 21, at the Levine Center. The first match is scheduled for 5 p.m.
"We are very excited to host this event at Queens and our Levine Center is an awesome venue for competition," said head coach
Ken Chertow. "Our team is excited to compete in this historic first home dual meet for our program."
Featuring a roster comprised of 24 wrestlers from 12 different states, the Queens wrestling program produced four place winners in its first two competitions. At the King Open, hosted by King University on Nov. 11,
Noah Gilbert went 3-0 to win the 133-pound weight class in his collegiate debut.
Noah Curreri (174) placed second,
Melvin Rubio (125) placed third and Stephon Haliburton (165) placed fourth.
At the Wolfpack Open hosted by North Carolina State University on Nov. 19, Curreri placed fourth in the 174-pound bracket, and Haliburton, wrestling at 165 pounds, placed eighth. As a team the Royals finished 16
th out of 35 participating teams.
"Our young team has been working very hard to improve since school started and our students' efforts are paying off," said Chertow. "Most of our wrestlers won their first college match last weekend and plan to win many more for years to come, starting on Tuesday in our first home dual meet."
Queens wrestling is in its inaugural season of competition after the program was launched in March.
