SAC Women's Volleyball Championship Central
JEFFERSON CITY, TENN. – The No. 2 seed Queens University of Charlotte women's volleyball team quickly dispatched rival Wingate University 3-0 (25-21 25-14, 25-15) in the South Atlantic Conference Women's Volleyball Semifinals on Friday afternoon.
The Royals (22-7) hit a season-high .379 as a team and held the No. 2 seed Bulldogs (25-3) to a season-low .115 mark. Queens had just five attack errors in the match and needed just 95 swings to put down 41 kills.
The first set of action was the closest of the night as Wingate opened up the match on a 7-3 run. Queens used nine unanswered points to eventually tie the match at 7-all and subsequently take the lead. The score was tied four times down the stretch but a kill from
Casey Tarvin and a Wingate attack error ended the set with QU in front.
Queens never trailed in the second or third set of play, dominating the action en route to consecutive double-digit set wins.
Freshman
Jordan Proszenyak led all players with 14 kills, a .324 hitting percentage and three service aces, while senior
Alex Thompson followed with nine kills and a .750 hitting mark.
Tarvin and senior
Jessica Raines each finished with seven kills as senior setter
Sydney Kunz directed the offense with 36 assists. Tarvin led the defense with 15 digs, followed by 15 from freshman libero
JayCee Jones and nine from Proszenyak.
The Royals advance to the SAC Championship match scheduled for a 2 p.m. start time tomorrow afternoon. This is the first tournament final appearance since joining the SAC in 2013 and the team will face No. 4 seed Carson-Newman University which upset the top overall seed Anderson University (S.C.) in the second semifinal match.
