NCAA DII Southeast Regional
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's soccer team closed its historical season this afternoon falling, 2-0, to Carson-Newman University in an NCAA Division II Southeast Regional Semifinal match. The nationally-ranked second Carson-Newman Eagles move on to the Southeast Regional Championship unbeaten this season at 18-0-1.
Carson-Newman took a 1-0 lead into the halftime break of this afternoon's semifinal thanks to a goal scored by Magada Mosengo in just the 12
th minute of action. Mosengo scored the goal after receiving a pass from Lauren Wade and getting past Queens' backline to go one-on-one with the Royals' goalkeeper,
Rachel Quest. Queens later saw an opportunity to tie the game in the 37
th minute when
Lulu Phan was taken down inside the box awarding the Royals a penalty kick. However, Carson-Newman goalkeeper Jackie Burns would come up with a huge save turning
Alana Jefferson's PK attempt away.
Mosengo then struck again with the Eagle's insurance goal in the 60
th on a shot taken from right in front of the net. Quest would get a hand on the ball but it deflected into the air and just over the goal line to make the score 2-0. Following the goal,
Emma Rose Stockton, Thea Mallet, and
Miranda Dechant each put shots on goal to try to keep the Royals in the game but they were each saved by the Eagles' Burns.
Seven of the Royals' eight shots today were on goal. Mallet led with three shots on goal while Stockton totaled two. Carson-Newman finished with 10 shots on goal after totaling 21 shots. Quest recorded eight saves, while Carson-Newman's Burns tallied seven saves.
Queens concludes its season with a 12-3-3 record. It is the third most winningest season in program history.
