Queens Set to Host Anderson in SAC Quarterfinals

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – After recording a South Atlantic Conference record of 8-2, the Queens University of Charlotte women's soccer team completed the regular season tied for second in the league. The finish is best for the program since Queens became a SAC member. Queens now looks to host Anderson University in the quarterfinal round of the SAC Women's Soccer Championships on Tuesday, Oct. 31 at 5 p.m.

The Royals, ranked fourth in the region according to the NCAA, have an 11-2-2 overall record. Though tying with Wingate for second place, the Royals enter tournament play as the No. 3 seed due to a loss to the Bulldogs during the regular season.

Queens is currently on an eight-game unbeaten streak after recording a program record seven shutout wins in a row. They then closed the regular season with a 2-2 draw at Limestone, who is ranked sixth in the region. Their last loss came at nationally-ranked fourth Carson-Newman on Sept. 23.

The Royals are led by Alana Jefferson who has 21 points on nine goals and three assists. The senior midfielder also ranks third in the league in goals and fourth in points. Thea Mallet follows with 15 points and Charlotte Ring has 12 points.

Anderson (6-8-1) earned the No. 6 seed after completing the year with a 5-5 league record. They capped their season with a pair of league wins over Lincoln Memorial and Mars Hill. Lauren Allen leads the Trojans with eight points on the year after totaling four goals. Lyssa Engle and Lexxi Longmore follow with two goals apiece.

Queens took the regular season matchup between the two teams by a score of 1-0 after Thea Mallet found the back of the net in the 35th.

The Royals fell in the quarterfinal round last year to Wingate at home by a score of 1-0 in double overtime, while Anderson advanced to the semifinals after defeating Tusculum on the road in a penalty kick shootout.
