GAFFNEY, N.C. - The Queens University of Charlotte women's soccer team, ranked fourth in the region by the NCAA, battled to a 2-2 double overtime tie with Limestone College (13-2-1) in a regional match tonight, putting the Royals' overall record at 11-2-2 at the close of the regular season. The Saints trail the Royals closely in the rankings at No. 6.Â

Following a scoreless first half, both teams would net a pair of goals in the second to find themselves tied at the end of regulation.

The Saints struck first in the 58
th minute when Alexis Mathis and Shalyn Dougherty combined for a double assist as Holly Rawcliffe slotted the ball into the net. Queens fought back and in the 63
rd minute
Thea Mallett and Emma Rose combined a pass off of a free kick that went over the Saints defensive line and landed at the foot of
Leanne Bryant who put it past Limestone goalkeeper Veronica Smeltzer. Thirty seconds later, Queens'
Alana Jefferson took a shot from about 30 yards out to break the tie and put the Royals up, 2-1. However, Limestone did not let up and tied the game back up in the 75
th minute when Naiara Kapstein found Emma Hickson off of a corner kick.Â

The 2-2 score then held until the end of regulation forcing extra time in the match where neither team would the back of the net. The tie is the first for the Saints this season, and the second for the Royals.

Bryant led Queens with four shots on goal and was followed by Jefferson who had one. Queens' goalkeeper,
Rachel Quest, recorded nine saves on the night to Smeltzer's four.

Seeded second in the South Atlantic Conference, the Royals will host the quarterfinal round of the SAC Women's Soccer Championships on Tuesday Oct. 31 at 5 pm at the Queens Sports Complex. Their opponent will be announced this weekend when the regular season wraps for all SAC teams.
