NEWBERRY, S.C. - Queens University of Charlotte women's soccer team extended its winning streak to five tonight when they defeated Newberry College (3-10, 1-7), 3-0. The Royals put their overall record at 9-2-1 overall and 6-2 in the South Atlantic Conference (SAC).
 
The Royals Alana Jefferson opened the scoring in the 21 minute of play when she received a ball from Charlotte Ring in the middle of the box, beat a defender and slotted it into the back of the net.
 
Queens would get another scoring opportunity before the period ended when Emma Stockton took a shot that hit off of the post. The Royals went into halftime leading 1-0.
 
In the second half, Queens kept the pressure on scoring again in the 49th minute off of a goal by Miranda Dechant who lofted a shot in, extending the lead to two. Stockton would grab the Royals third and final goal of the day in the 62nd minute with a shot from the top of the box.
 
Ring would have one more opportunity to put another one on the board with a shot that hit off of the crossbar before time expired ending the game with a Royals win at 3-0.
 
The Royals had eight total shots on goal with Jefferson, Stockton, and Jordan Winters having two apiece followed by Ring and Dechant who each had one. Queens goalkeeper Rachel Quest accumulated six saves and grabbed the shutout.
 
The Royals return home on October 18 to face Anderson University at 5 p.m. at the Queens Sports Complex.
