No. 3 Queens Knocks off Lincoln Memorial in Overtime Thriller

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's basketball team, ranked third in the nation, defeated Lincoln Memorial University, 103-101, in overtime this evening in Curry Arena. The win helps Queens remain undefeated at 14-0 on the year and 8-0 in South Atlantic Conference play. The Railsplitters fall to 10-4 on the season and 5-3 in league play.

Jalin Alexander led the Royals tonight, pouring in a new career-high 28 points on 11-of-12 shooting. Mike Davis added 17 points, and Ike Agusi totaled 15 points. Daniel Camps scored 14 points, while Daniel Carr added 12 points. Jared Hendryx finished play with nine points, 12 rebounds, and four blocks.

With Queens trailing the Railsplitters, 101-98, Queens' Carr found a pair of buckets to lift the Royals past the Railsplitters, 102-101, with 20 seconds left to play. A free-throw from Alexander soon followed, putting the nail in the coffin as Queens walked away with their first victory over LMU since the 1992-1993 season.

Shooting 57.1-percent from the floor in the opening half, Queens held a 13-point lead, 35-22, at 7:49 thanks to an 11-3 run. A 7-2 spurt for the Railsplitters allowed them to cut Queens' lead to five, 37-32, with 5:18 on the clock, but five straight points scored by Alexander helped the home team pull ahead by 10, 42-32, with 4:31 left in the half. LMU then closed the half with a 9-4 run to cut Queens' lead to five, 46-41, at the break. Alexander finished the half with 15 points to lead all of the floor heading into the locker room.

The second half would be a much tighter affair between the two teams as the Royals were not able to create more than a seven-point cushion between themselves and the Railsplitters. After a layup from LMU's Trevon Shaw brought them within one of Queens, 82-81, with just 2:05 to play, a 6-2 spurt by the Royals put the home team in front 88-83. However, the Railsplitters had one more push left as they closed regulation with a 7-2 run to tie the game to force overtime with the score sitting at 90-90.

Shaw led LMU with 25 points, while Spaw added 22 points. Dorian Pinson totaled 21 points and 13 rebounds, and Chris Perry chipped in with 18 points.

The Royals will be right back in action on Wednesday, January 11 when they welcome Lenoir-Rhyne University to Curry Arena. Last season, Queens split the home-and-home series with the Bears winning 105-102 on the road, and falling 94-90 at home. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m.
