CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte field hockey team added to their opening day success, with another win today over Belmont Abbey College. The Royals outscored the Crusaders 1-0, to take their record for the year to 2-0. Belmont Abbey falls to 0-2 on the season.
The game started off today in an end to end manner, with both teams pushing forward in search of the opening goal. In the 19th minute,
Hanna Nechay would break the dead lock with a smart give and go with
Meghan Smiga to put the Royals in front. The goal takes Nechay to two goals for the year, while Smiga records her first assist of the season.
The second half would be a more cagey affair, with a goal being disallowed for each team. However, the Royals managed to remain composed and see the game out to record their second win of the year.
Queens totaled 15 shots in today's game, putting seven on goal, while the Crusaders totaled 11 shots with six of those being on frame.
Miranda Childers recorded six saves for the day, along with Anna Fleetwood of the Crusaders who also recorded six saves.
