Queens Edged in Overtime by Rollins

ORLANDO, Fla. – After fighting back from a 2-0 deficit in tonight's game and tying things up, 2-2, to force overtime, the Queens University of Charlotte women's soccer team fell 3-2 on the road against Rollins College. The loss gives the Royals an 0-2 start on the year, while the Tars sit at 2-0.

Following Kathryn O'Brien's second goal of the night in just the 24th minute of play, Queens' Shelby Osiecki brought the Royals to within one finding the back of the net after rebounding a loose ball. The goal would be the first for the senior defender in her collegiate career. Queens would trail the Tars, 2-1, at the break.

Rollins continued to control the lead in the second until the Royals found their opportunity to knot things up in the 60th. Thea Mallett would score the game tying goal with Mariah Lewis notching the assist on the play after the pair broke loose from the Tars' defense. Following Mallett's score the Tars put three shots on goal to try to take the game in regulation, but Queens goalkeeper Rachel Quest was there each time to collect the save.

Rollins would take the win in tonight's match in the first minute of overtime after winning a corner kick 36 seconds into the period. Paxton Sickler scored the game winner, firing a shot from inside the box after receiving a cross from Mora Johnson at 90:53.

Queens put five shots on goal this evening compared to Rollins' six. The Royals also totaled six corners to The Tars' three. Quest finished the game with three saves as did Kelly Rowswell of Rollins.

The Royals will have their home opener on Wednesday, September 7 when they welcome Limestone College to Dickson Field. Kickoff is at 6 p.m.
