Royals share the day with Coker

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Hartsville, S.C. – As the conference battles continue, Queens University of Charlotte (8-21, 2-4 SAC) shared the series with Coker College (17-4, 5-3 SAC) on Wednesday, March 25, 2015, as the team took the first game 5-2 while Coker took the second 2-1.

For the day, the Royals grabbed eight hits leaving only three on base. Coker on the other hand saw 13 runner never make their way to home. The Cobras also had a combined 14 hits at the end of the double-header.

Lyndey McCurry (3-6) took the win for the Royals in game one going all seven innings with only two earned runs, four hits, two walks and a strikeout. Her performance in the first game was not limited to the mound as she took responsibility for two Queens' runners crossing the plate.

Tabitha Allen (10-10) suffered the loss for Coker going the whole first game with five hits, four earned runs, two balls, and not strikeouts.

Although Coker found its way around the bases first, Queens overcame the 2-0 start from the Cobras to put the first game in their win column. Tayler Barcomb and Ashley Gallman, respectively, found the RBIs for the Cobras bringing Katelyn Szupello home in the first and Jill Lewis in the second. Queens found runs on the board in the third inning as Micaela Hayes was brought to bat with the bases load. Hayes's singlet was enough to send Taylor Cheek home to give the team their first score. Next batter up Whitney Britt won the pitching battle seeing a free pass to first base to bring Abby Lathan home.  The Royals found one more run in the third inning as Venus Gonzalez drove one into right field for a sacrifice fly brining Hayes in to take the lead. The game stood with a one run difference until the top of the sixth when McCurry's hit into center field brought Kayla Hall and Samantha Martinez across home plate.

Whitney Baker (0-4) held the mound for 6.1 innings in the second matchup. Baker gave up ten hits, only one earned run, no walks and no strikeouts as she saw 30 batters.

Brittany Long (7-2) took the win as her second game appearance consisted of three hits, one earned run, no walks, and no strikeouts for a seven inning stand on the mound.

Late runs determined game two as both teams remained scoreless through five innings. Coker broke the silence with a one base hit from Corrine Stiles to bring home Barcomb. Queens would not find their answer until the top of the seventh. Gonzalez shot one into center field giving Britt time jump from second base and make her way home. Looking like the Royals found their way into extra innings, Gallman hit the game winning single for Stiles to advance from third base.

Queens faces their next double-header at home on Saturday, hosting Brevard College (7-12, 1-6 SAC). The first pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
