Box Score Hickory, N.C.- The Queens University of Charlotte volleyball team fell to Lenoir-Rhyne on Saturday, November 14, 2015, as the Bears swept the match in three sets going 25-10, 25-10, 25-23. Queens falls to 13-15 overall and 11-11 in South Atlantic Conference play. Lenoir-Rhyne moves to a 20-7 overall record and an 18-4 conference record.
Taylor Henry led the team as she found eight kills in the match.
Megan Mancini led the Royals in both service aces with three and digs with nine. The team would tie with Lenoir-Rhyne in blocks with six.
The Bears were topped by Ashley Wells who tallied 11 kills and two blocks. Morgan Bunker led the team with digs grabbing seven in the match.
The match started with the Royals calling a timeout in the first set with the Bear leading 9-3. A kill from
Jessica Raines and solo blocks from
Elizabeth Bialkowski and
Rebecca Cochran shortened the gap, but nine unanswered points by Lenoir-Rhyne closed the set.
Two runs by the Bears put Lenoir-Rhyne ahead at 13-4. Five more unanswered points pushed the Bears to a 20-8 score before they closed the set with another 5-0 run as the Royals set their turned their attention to the third set.
Despite the 11-5 start in the third set, Queens battled to take the lead overtaking the Bears at 12-11. With the Royals fighting to survive, the team made another push towards the close of the set taking a 21-19 lead. The two teams sat tied at 23-23 but an error and a kill from Emily Steele ended the match.
The Royals will get a rematch as they face the Bears in the first round of the conference tournament at Anderson University.
