Strong First Half Propels Royals To Victory Over Hampden-Sydney

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte Men's Basketball team started their 2015-16 campaign on Sunday, November 1, 2015, with a 95-75 win over Hampden-Sydney College in an Exhibition Game.
 
Senior guard Rob Lewis was 6-10 from the floor to lead Queens with 17 points. He also totaled three rebounds and assists to round out his afternoon. Sean Morgan was second on the team with 15 points followed by Jacoby Davis who scored 11 for the Royals. Queens was able to get sixteen players on the court during the game, with thirteen of them tallying on the score sheet.
 
The Royals offense was clicking this afternoon as they shot 55.2 percent from the floor and 50.0 percent from beyond the arc. Even though they were outrebounded by the Tigers 43-36, but Queens was able to cause 21 turnovers as well as tally 21 assists in the game.
 
The game was back and forth in the first half until the Royals got things rolling as they went on a 12-0 run and climbed to a 39-19 lead with 3:54 left in the first half after a made 3-pointer from Kendall Jones. Hampden-Sydney scored two buckets in a row to try to halt the Royals run, but the Royals continued their strong play and went into the break with a 48-31 lead.
 
Queens continued on their roll at the start of the second half as they went on a 21-7 run that brought their lead up to 69-38. The lead would get up to as high as thirty-eight with 9:14 remaining after back to back thunderous dunks from Daniel Camps.  For the remainder of the second half, the Royals kept their hold on the lead as they began to rest their starters.
 
Gray Cheers led the Tigers with 16 points and six rebounds this afternoon, while Andrew Evans added 11 points and six rebounds.
 
Queens will start the regular season on November 14th as they travel to St. Augustine, Florida to face off against Flagler College.
