Katie Talbert, head women's soccer coach, grabbed her 100
th victory this evening when the Royals picked up a 1-0 overtime win over Catawba College (3-7, 2-4). Queens improves to 5-5-1 on the year and 3-2-1 in South Atlantic Conference play.
The Royals dominated on the offensive end in today's match outshooting the Indians 20-4 in the 90 minutes of regulation. The golden goal would come in the 100
th minute from sophomore
Alana Jefferson, who fired a shot from the top of the box after receiving a layoff from
Charlotte Ring. Jefferson's shot soared into the upper right 90 for the win.
Goalkeeper
Tori Danchak took the win in goal after totaling three saves, while Angelica Pawlowski totaled eight saves for the Indians in her 90 minutes of action. Catawba's Bethany Davis notched one save in 10 minutes of play.
Talbert is currently in her 12
th season as a head coach, and recorded 90 of her wins during her ten seasons with the Royals.She has the most wins of any head women's soccer coach in Queens history, and is just one of three coaches in the SAC to have recorded 100 wins. Queens moves up to fifth in the league following her 100
th career victory.
The Royals are back in action at home on Saturday when they welcome Mars Hill University to Dickson Field. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.
