Box Score Wingate, N.C. –The Queens University of Charlotte volleyball team (4-9, 3-6 SAC) dropped to South Atlantic Conference lead, Wingate (14-2, 8-1 SAC), on Saturday, October 3, 2015. The Royals fell 25-19, 25-13, 21-25, 25-11 to the Bulldogs who held Queens to just 29 kills, their lowest this season.
Despite the fall,
Annika Jones took four service aces against the Bulldogs for her second game in a row and the third time this season.
Meredith Jones led the team offensively tallying 13 kills while
Jessica Raines followed behind her for seven kills.
Abby Saehler tabbed 12 kills for the Bulldogs with Shelly Stumpff tabbing 10 kills. Kimberly Hovey would find 26 assists to help Wingate in the match.
Play opened with the Royals ahead 6-2 early in the first set. However, six unanswered points midway through to put the Bulldogs ahead 16-12. They would hold the lead until the end of the set.
The momentum built in the first set carried over as Queens was unable to find rhythm. Wingate held the second set from start to finish limiting the Royals to just four kills.
Rising to the pressure, Queens found their poise in the third set, capitalizing early for a 12-4 lead. The momentum slowly faded as the Bulldogs would narrow the gap, the Royals never gave up their lead for the set.
Feeling inspired by the set before Queens held even through the opening points of set 4. However, the team would be unable to maintain as Wingate took 14 unanswered points to claim the match.
Queens will play Brevard at home next Friday. The two teams will take the floor at 7 p.m.
