Charlotte, NC - Queens University of Charlotte women's tennis team seized a 9-0 win in their first home match of the year over Johnson C. Smith on Saturday, September 27, 2014. The Royals took command of the match early in their sweeping victory.
Queens came out strong and in control to start the match on Saturday at 2pm. The Royals grabbed hold of all three doubles matches with a shutout run from
Jaclyn Rock and
Claire Hamilton over Rankin Andevsor and Amanda Pettway (8-0). The Royals took both Courts 2 and 3 with 8-1 victories as
Paige Ernest and
Farina Rafiq took on Khadjah Battle and Victoria Ogudipe, and
Caroline Nielsen and
Jacklyn Pfuhl overcame Jasmine Riddick and Kaylin Roman.
Queens had an equally impressive run in the singles matches refusing to let the Golden Bulls gain more than four total points in any match. Nielsen dominated on Court 1 with a shutout of Victoria Ogudipe taking the sets 6-0, 6-0. Rock match off against Andevsor for the number two singles, where she took home a 6-1, 6-0 victory for the Royals. Court 3 was secured by Hamilton who confidently took set one 6-0 before maintaining her dominance with a 6-3 win in set two.
Jessee Clauson and Amanda Pettway battled it out for the fourth singles court with Clauson grabbing point with a 6-1, 6-3 win. Pfuhl took Court 5 going 6-3, 6-1 over opponent Jasmine Riddick.
Jasmine Woods would wrap things up for the Royals as the last match of the day. She defeated Michaila Colrin from Johnson C. Smith with a 6-2, 6-1 run.
The Royals travel to Belmont Abbey on Wednesday, October 1
st to face the Crusaders.
