Box Score HARTSVILLE, N.C.- Queens University of Charlotte volleyball (4-5) triumphed over Coker College (3-3) in their South Atlantic Conference opener on Tuesday, September 16, 2014. The Royals would take the match in three sets going 25-22, 25-21, 25-12.
Katie Schoenrock would have a season high game walking away with ten kills for the match while
Rebecca Cochran took home four aces with 10 kills for the night. With three aces of her own,
Sydney Kunz also provided 34 assists to the conquering Royals.
The Queens Royals started the match with an early run taking a 6-2 lead over the Coker College Cobras. Although Queens conceded the first point, they would hold control for the remainder of the set. Queens would further their lead launching into a 20-14 point game, with a boost from Cochran who had two aces during the run and three for the set. Coker would make a play towards the ends but Queens managed to hold them off to take the 25-22 victory.
The second set started off in a race to gain momentum with Queens eventually jumped out in front after their eight point. The Cobras fought to keep the game within striking distance eventually tying it at 13-13. The two teams would continue to battle throughout the set as they swapped points. Cochran broke the stalemate with a killer shot on the left side of the court only to follow it with a hammer to backline. The Cobra's would again force the tie at 17-17 before Queens grabbed a 3-0 run compelling a Coker timeout. Although the two teams would battle it out, Queens would take hold of the set 25-21.
The Royals rose to the challenge in the third set forcing Coker to take a 9-3 timeout after an echoing shot from Kunz. The Royals would continue their advance going on a 7-2 run with Schoenrock finding two kills within the group.
Meredith Jones had an electrify hit to take a 22-11 lead before Schoenrock found two more kills in the last three points to close out the match 25-12.
