Box Score MORROW, Ga. – The Royals wrapped up their action in the Clayton State Invitational this evening, falling 3-0 to the Lakers in the non-conference women's soccer match. The Royals record now sits at 1-4 on the season, while Clayton State improves to 4-1.
After holding the Lakers scoreless in the opening half, the Royals found themselves facing much more pressure from Clayton State's offense after the break as the Lakers put three in the back of the net after taking 14 second half shots.
Clayton State's first goal would come from Denisha Paskell in the 47
th minute of the second half. Rachael Schmidt earned the assist on the play. Almost 10 minutes later Lucy Cunningham of the Lakers would put a low cross into the box that was found by Jencilia Villaverde who connected on a shot to put the Lakers ahead 2-0. Cunningham would then score Clayton State's final goal of the game in the 59
th with Paskell on the passing end of the ball.
The Royals put three shots on goal in the opening 20 minutes of tonight's game, but each was turned away by Clayton State goalkeeper Charlotte McCormack.
In the second half,
Jasmine Singh put a header on frame in the 69
th minute off of a corner kick from
Ashley Osiecki. McCormack collected her fourth save of the night on the play.
Tori Danchak completed 90 minutes in goal for Queens, totaling eight saves. The Lakers totaled 22 shots on the night.
Queens opens up conference play on Wednesday at Tusculum College. Game time is set for 5 p.m.
