Royals split with fifth ranked Pirates

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Game One

Queens opened up the first game on fire with three runs coming in the first inning behind the bats of two freshman. It was Ashton Whitaker who first stepped to the plate and knocked in one run, and immediately following Teale Moran drove in two more with a double to centerfield.

Whitaker continued to dominate throughout the game and picked up the rest of the Royals RBI's in the game. In the third inning she stepped up and knocked in three more with a home run, and followed that with another RBI off a single in the fifth.

Kaitlyn Bodine earned the win for the Royals and combined with Ashley Rollins to only allow four runs on 10 hits while striking out five in the first game.

Whitaker and Robyn Levine led the Royals three hits apiece.

Game two

The Royals faced a fierce Pirates squad in the second game that jumped to a 1-0 lead in the first inning. The Royals countered with a Whitney Britt solo home run in the third, but the Pirates caught fire in the same inning and scored eight runs.

Britt and Kaitlyn Cheek led the Royals with two hits apiece.

The Royals are now 5-3 on the season.
