Royals fall in battle with No. 25 Lincoln Memorial

Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's basketball team welcomed the Lincoln Memorial University Railplitters, ranked 25th in the nation, to Curry Arena this afternoon falling 66-51. The loss is the first in conference play for Queens as they fall to 1-1 in the league and 1-3 on the year. The Railsplitters remain undefeated on the year at 4-0 overall and 2-0 in the South Atlantic Conference.

The Royals were led by junior forward Sean Morgan who scored 17 points on 6-of-10 shooting. Queens' next leading scorers were Rob Lewis and Jacarl Owens who each put eight points in the books. Jedarian Jackson and Marquis Rankin added seven points apiece. Jackson led the Royals under the glass pulling down nine boards.

The Royals had a rough outing offensively shooting just 32.7-percent from the floor on 17-of-52 shooting after connecting on 27-of-55 shots earlier in the week against Lenoir-Rhyne University. Queens also struggled from behind the arc only knocking down 1-of-15 shots from deep.

Trailing by eight at the start of the second, the Royals continued to fight, chipping away at Lincoln Memorials lead one bucket a time. The home team would get as close as four points to the Railsplitters on a number of occasions, but the visitors seemed to find baskets right on time to keep the Royals at bay.

A 6-2 run late in the second capped by a lay-in from Morgan would bring the Royals to within four of the Railsplitters one last time, but seven unanswered points from Lincoln Memorial stretched their lead back out to 11 with 2:56 to play.

The Royals held the lead for a short time in the opening minutes of play after Morgan knocked down the first bucket of the game with a baseline jumper. The Railsplitters responded scoring the next three points of the game to take over the lead for the rest of half. Lincoln Memorial built their lead out to as much as 13 points before an 8-3 run by the Royals cut their advantage to eight at the half.

Queens continued to dominate play in the paint this afternoon outscoring the Railsplitters 24-16 in the lane. They were also able to force Lincoln Memorial to turn the ball over 16 times.

Luquon Choice led Lincoln Memorial with 18 points, while Lorenza Ross added 13 points. Keenan Peterson chipped in with seven points and nine rebounds.

The Royals return to action on the road at Coker College on Tuesday, November 25. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m.
