Royals fall on road to conference leader Lenoir-Rhyne

CHARLOTTE, N.C.-  Queens University of Charlotte (8-8-2, 5-4-2 SAC) women's soccer fell 2-1 on the road to the South Atlantic Conference leader, Lenoir-Rhyne (15-3-1, 11-1 SAC) on Saturday, November 1, 2014. Queens would take an early lead, but Lenoir-Rhyne would find a late match goal to take a 2-1 win.

The Royals would strike first in the match as Caitlyn Rodrigues caught a volley off a free kick from Ashley Osiecki at the 14 minute mark. Brenna Kate Grass followed up for the Royals forcing Alayna Morris to make the save. Lenoir-Rhyne would find the tying goal at 24 minutes into the match from Casey Marllin who took a long pass from Lizzie McNamara. Lenoir-Rhyne would out shoot the Royals in the first half 8-6 with both keepers tallying two saves apiece.

Second half started with the Royals on the defensive as Lenoir-Rhyne took four shots in the first ten minutes. The Bears continued pursuit taking 14 shots to the Royals' one. Queens would fight off the attack locking the match at 1-1and would the tie through the 89th minute. A foul in the box brought Lenoir-Rhyne's Emmi Dunn to the Penalty Kick spot to push one in past Tori Danchak for the winning goal.

Lenoir-Rhyne took the match 2-1 with their 10 conference win in a row and ending the regular season with a spotless home record.

Grass would lead the Royals on offense putting two shots on goal forcing Lenoir-Rhyne to come up with the save. Rodrigues took the sole goal for Queens giving the lead in the match as Danchak made six game saving plays to keep Queens alive.

Queens will continue post-season play in the South Atlantic Conference tournament and with their quarterfinal opponent dependent upon the Wingate-Lincoln Memorial game that was postponed until tomorrow.


Queens would take an early lead, but Lenoir-Rhyne would find a late match goal to take a 2-1 win.
