Belmont, N.C. – Queens University of Charlotte came away with a 9-0 road win on Wednesday, October 1, 2014 over the Crusaders of Belmont Abbey. The team put together a complete and sound performance in their road victory against the Crusaders as they took hold of ever set.
Ole-Jacob Meum and Per-Erik Soler started off the men's match on Court 1. The pair battled Conner McMann and Juan Baez to an 8-3 Royals triumph. Jules Athalis and Andor Vas, who were paired together this weekend in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regional Tournament (ITA) grabbed the number two doubles point for the Royals in a 8-2 victory over Eduardo Escobar and Damien Nelson. William Robinson and Sean Harris capped off the doubles with their crushing 8-0 performance against Gabriel Trombini and Will Bezy in the number three doubles spot.
Focusing on the singles, Queens held the Crusaders off the board on three courts as Roberson, Williams, and Harris all went 6-0, 6-0. Robinson's grabbed a victory over Trombini in the 4th slot as Williams took on Nelson on Court 5 and Harris battled Bezy on Court 6. Soler held strong in the number one singles for Queens as McMann was only able to grab five total sets. Soler ended up taking the point with a 6-3, 6-2 win. Athalis took a 6-2 win on the first set for the Royals, before battling to ward-off a third set against Baez. Athlalis would manage to swing a 6-2, 7-6 win for the Royals. Meum would represent the Royals on Court 3 with a confident performance over Escobar. Meum would take the win in a 6-2, 6-0 match.
They Royals will be back in action this Saturday, October 4, 2014, at the Wingate Invitational.
