Royals drop match to Montevallo

SALISBURY, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte volleyball team was on the road again today as they took the court against Montevallo in day two of the Catawba College Tournament. Coming of a tightly contested loss against Shippensburg yesterday, the Royals looked to avenge last year's 0-3 loss to the Falcons.
 
In set one the Royals were down early and struggled to catch up, and eventually dropped the set by the score 14-25. Unable to replicate their potent offense from the previous day, and finished the set with hitting percentage of .129 compared to the Falcons' .400.
 
The Royals were able to rebound quickly and jumped to a 12-6 lead over the Falcons early in the second set. Playing with the lead the Royals were forced to hold off the surging Falcons and found themselves in a tight matchup with the set forced to extra points. Ultimately the Royals could not hold off Montevallo, and dropped the set 27-28.
 
After finding their offensive rhythm in the second set the Royals started out the third set struggling above the net. The Royals lost the set by the score of 25-15 after struggling to find their offensive rhythm.
 
Keri Kemp led the Royals offensively with 14 kills and Mean Mancini and Taylor Riley each chipped in with double digit assists. Defensively Jocelyn Kellinger has 12 digs while Kemp added 10.
 
The Royals are currently 0-2 and travel to Lenoir-Rhyne Tuesday for the opening game of the South Atlantic Conference regular season.
