Box Score MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Queens University of Charlotte (13-13) traveled to face Pfeiffer University (22-5) in the final regular season game of the year this evening. The Royals were defeated 86-65 in Merner Gym, dropping to 11-11 in Conference Carolinas to finish tied in fifth place. The Falcons complete the regular season in third place at 17-5.
The Royals fell behind by as much as 19 points in the first half before going on a 12-2 run in the final four minutes. At the break, Queens trailed the Falcons 34-25.
Queens would carry that momentum into the second half, taking a 40-37 on a layup by
Dyonna Battle (Rocky Mount, N.C., Rocky Mount) that capped a 15-3 run. The Falcons would regain the lead shortly after, and narrowly hold the advantage over the next ten minutes of play. Pfeiffer would expand its lead out to 21, 86-65, in the final five minutes of action as Queens' offense went cold.
Shonice Pettaway (Walstonburg, N.C., Greene Central) led the Royals with 21 points, while Battle recorded 10 points and eight rebounds.
Melissa Thomas (Havelock, N.C., Havelock) scored nine points, while
Tia Hudgins (Rocky Mount, N.C., Rocky Mount) added seven.
Brittany Cox, Kellie Rhoney and Jodie Lemons each scored 19 points, while Christina Harvey added 18 points for Pfeiffer. The Falcons only turned the ball over nine times against the Royals' stifling defense.
The Royals will most likely travel to face Pfeiffer University again for the quarter final round of the Conference Carolinas Tournament on Tuesday. Check back for more information.
