Box Score SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Royals traveled to Converse College this evening to take on the Valkyries in women's soccer action with the match ending in a 1-1 tie after two scoreless overtime periods. The Royals now sit at 4-5-1, while Converse holds a 3-6-2 record.
After 74 minutes of scoreless action, the Valkyries' Darby Boyd scored the first goal of the game in the 75
th. Boyd received a pass from Georgia Jones before putting the ball in the net.
With time ticking off the clock the Royals made a late sub in the half putting
Megan Sload (Conestoga, Pa., Penn Manor) into the game. She would soon follow with the game-tying goal in the 88
th minute forcing the match into extra time.
The Royals controlled the first overtime period taking two shots and winning two corner kicks. Both shots were saved by Converse's keeper, Gabrielle Chamberland, resulting in yet another overtime period. The final period of play featured two shots by the Valkyries which
Kelsey Seretis (Norfolk, Va., Maury) turned away from the net. The Valkyries had two corner kicks in the final minutes, but the Royals' defense fought off their attack as time ticked away.
Queens doubled the shots taken by Converse shooting 18 to the Valkyries' nine.
Kristen Wright (Salisbury, Md., Parkside) led all on the field with six shots, and Seretis completed play in the net with three saves.
The Royals will be on the road for their next game at Lenoir-Rhyne University on Wednesday, October 3 at 7:30 p.m.
