Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Queens University of Charlotte hosted Catawba College this evening falling 2-1 to the Indians in nonconference women's soccer action. The Royals fall to 2-4 on the season, while Catawba improves to 3-2.
Catawba's Juliana Conte put the visiting team on the board first with a goal in the fifth minute assisted by Karen Presnell. Despite the Royals' efforts to put one in the net, Catawba was able to hold the score at 1-0 up to the break due their keeper turning a shot from Queens'
Brooke Foil (Knightdale, N.C., Knightdale) away from the frame.
The Royals would knot the game up at 1-1 in the second half when sophomore defender
Diamond Russos (Raleigh, N.C., Sanderson) scored a goal off of a corner from freshman forward
Mary Stringini (Shorewood, Minn, Minnetonka). A lost possession in the back field would prove to be costly in the 65
th minute as Catawba's Amy Iwanicki snuck a ball in the goal to give the Indians a 2-1 lead. With time ticking away, Queens' Stringini broke away towards the net firing the final shot on goal of the game. However, her shot was blocked by Catawba's keeper as they held out for the win.
Queens was outshot 12-9 by the Indians, but won the battle for corner kicks 8-2. Queens'
