Box Score 2 ST. LEO, F.L. – The Queens University of Charlotte Volleyball team took the court today in the final day of the St. Leo University Classic in St. Leo Florida. The Royals opened up the day with a match against Southwest Baptist University that was tightly contested throughout, and ultimately led to a 3-2 loss for the Royals. In the final game of the weekend Queens took on the hometown Lions in another highly contested match that eventually resulted in a 3-1 loss for the Royals.
In the first game of the day the Royals took on Southwest Baptist University in a tightly contested match that the Royals showed their determination by rallying from multiple deficits. Offensively Queens were led by
Lindsey Everhart (McNicholas),
Ashlyn Dibrell (Lamar), and
Keri Kemp (Lake Mary) who all had double digit kills, and freshman setter
McKenzie Martin (Stratford) added to the effort with 39 assists. Defensively it was Martin, Kemp, and libero
Jocelyn Kellinger (Cave Spring) racking up double digit digs for the Royals.
“The girls had a tremendous amount a heart and never gave up,” said head coach
Lettie Wilkes about the game. “They kept pushing and made tremendous improvements throughout the whole entire game.”
In the second game of the day the Royals faced off against on the 3-0 St. Leo University Lions, and took early control of the match resulting in winning the first game 25-23. They eventually fell by the score of 3-1, but continued to battle throughout the match and stayed close on the heels of the Lions.
Queens returns to Charlotte with a 1-3 record on the year. They take the court next at the Pfeiffer Falcons Tournament on September 7
