Royals defeat Huskies at Francis Marion Tournament

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 FLORENCE, S.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte Softball team is on the road this weekend as they are competing in the Francis Marion Tournament.  Today the Royals split their two games as they beat Bloomsburg University 1-0 before falling to Francis Marion University 7-2.

Senior pitcher Chantel Dodge (Shalimar, Fla., Choctawhatchee) led the way in the victory against Bloomsburg as she held the opposition to zero runs and only three hits. Whitney Britt (Gibson, N.C., Scotland) scored the game's lone run in the first inning following a walk and two errors in the inning by Bloomsburg fielders. Offensively the Royals struggled to get their bats going as they were held to only two hits during the game, but were able to give the Huskies their first loss of the season.

In the later game against Francis Marion the Royals were once again paced offensively by their leadoff batter, Britt, who went 2-4 during the game. The Royals gathered six hits to Francis Marion's 15. This drops Queens to a 9-14 record on the season.

Queens resumes tournament action tomorrow as they take on Armstrong Atlantic State University at 11 a.m., and Fairmont State University at 1 p.m.
