Royals down Mount Olive in four sets

Box Score MOUNT OLIVE N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte volleyball team travelled to Mount Olive College today to take on the Trojans in Conference Carolinas play. After dropping the first set 25-23, the Royals won three straight set to take the match 3-1.
 
In the second set the Royals took the lead early behind multiple kills from outside hitter Anna Gibbs (Hickory, N.C., Hickory)  With the lead Queens continued to pound away, and eventually took the set 25-16 with a .296 hitting percentage.
 
In the third set Queens once again took an early lead, but this time it was as a result of Mount Olive mistakes, and the Royals' strong defensive play. Queens maintained the lead, and was able to take the set 25-18 with Keri Kemp (Lake Mary, Fla., Lake Mary) andLindsey Everhart (Cincinnati, Ohio, McNicholas) picking up multiple kills.
 
The fourth set was much closer for the Royals as Mount Olive picked up an early 7-4 lead. Queens was able to bring the game closer, and behind the strong serving of Sarah Malpass (Gainesville, Fla., Gainesville) eventually took the lead at 18-14. Mount Olive refused to give in and evened the score at 20-20. From there both teams exchanged points until Everhart finished the game at 26-24 with a kill.
 
Kemp led the Royals offense with 20 kills on a spectacular hitting percentage of .474. Gibbs added 10 kills, and Taylor Riley (Lynchburg, Va., E.C. Glass) directed the offense with 37 assists. Defensively libero Jocelyn Kellinger (Roanoke, Va., Cave Spring) paced  Queens with 12 digs and Elizabeth Bialkowski (Raleigh, N.C., Millbrook) added four blocks.
 
The Royals currently stand at 18-11 and 11-2 in Conference Carolinas play. The Royals play again tomorrow when they travel to Barton at 2 P.M.
