Royals drop game to Barton in double OT

Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's soccer team dropped its match 2-1 with the Barton College Bulldogs this evening. A goal scored by the Bulldogs 26 seconds into the second overtime period ended the match giving Queens (4-7-2) a 2-2-1 Conference Carolinas record. Barton is now 3-4 in the league, and 4-6 on the year.
 
The Bulldogs were able to tie the game at 1-1 in the 83rd minute after Queens' keeper, Kelsey Seretis (Norfolk, Va., Maury)  was whistled for a foul in the box. Taylor Parrish of the Bulldogs stepped up to take the penalty kick scoring it to take the game into extra minutes.
 
The first overtime passed with no goals scored, though the Royals took four shots. At the start of the second overtime period, the Bulldogs possessed the ball and Emily Frutal dribbled towards the net taking a shot. Seretis of Queens made a sliding block but the ball took an unlucky bounce allowing Frutal to take another shot which she scored into an empty net.
 
Queens scored the first goal of the goal in the 27th minute when Mary Stringini (Shorewood, Minn, Minnetonka) rebounded a shot from her teammate and placed it into the net for a 1-0 lead in the first half.
 
The Royals outshot the Bulldogs 36-8 and won six corners to Barton's two.
 
Barton's Carson Moore ended the game with 15 saves.
 
Queens is back in action at home on Wednesday, October 10 at 7:30 p.m. at the Queens Sports Complex.
