Women’s soccer collects third win in a row

Box Score GAFFNEY, S.C. – The Royals (7-7-1) collected their third win in a row this afternoon defeating Limestone College (8-5) 3-2 on the road in Conference Carolinas women's soccer action. Queens University of Charlotte jumped up to fourth place in the league at 5-2-1 with the win, while the Saints now sit in third at 6-3.
 
The Saints got going early when Leah Kennington scored a goal with a header off of a short cross in the seventh minute of play. Gabriella Reid of Limestone was awarded the assist. Queens responded in the 29th when Mary Stringini (Shorewood, Minn, Minnetonka) received a pass from Brooke Foil (Knightdale, N.C., Knightdale)  and beat her defender to go one –on-one with Limestone's keeper, Tori Waddell, netting a goal. The score would sit tied at 1-1 into the break.
 
In the second, Nicole Hoff (Cary, N.C., Cary) found the back of the net for the first time in her freshman season giving the Royals a 2-1 lead in the 49th. Five minutes later Stringini would put Queens up 3-1 with another goal after Foil fed her a through ball which she shot past Limestone's keeper into the net. Stringini now leads the Royals with 13 points this season. Limestone's Kennington would net another goal in the 88th to close the Royals' lead to one, but time was on Queens' side as they went on to pick up their seventh win of the season.
 
Queens keeper Kelsey Seretis (Norfolk, Va., Maury) finished the game with seven saves after facing 18 shots. The Royals took nine shots this afternoon.
 
The Royals will travel to face Coker College on Saturday at 4:30 p.m.
