CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Queens University of Charlotte returned to action this evening after a week off completing the conference series sweep with Mount Olive College in volleyball action. The Royals defeated the Trojans 3-1 (25-23, 25-16, 27-29, 25-22).

Queens improves to 16-7 on the year and 10-2 in conference play, while the Trojans drop to 13-13 on the season and 6-8 in the league.

The Royals got on a roll in the first set racking up four points on three blocks and an ace en route to a 14-9 lead. The Trojans closed the gap to three before Keri Kemp (Lake Mary, Fla., Lake Mary) spiked a ball from the back side for a kill and then teamed up with Ashley Winters (Fredericktown, Ohio, Highland) for a block. Ashlyn Dibrell (Arlington, Texas, Lamar) delivered an ace next putting Queens up 20-14 and forcing a timeout by Mount Olive. The Trojans then forced a run of their own thanks to attack errors by the Royals tying the game up at 22-22. The Royals regained the lead on a service error by the visitors and put the set away with a block by Tori Hernandez (Gainesville, Fla., Gainesvillle) and Brittany Harvey (Matthews, N.C., Sun Valley ).

In set two the Royals jumped out early led by Harvey who collected three kills on Queens' first six points. Attack errors plagued Mount Olive's offense as Queens built a 20-11 lead. Nicole Sparks of the Trojans tried to trigger life back into Mount Olive's attack with two service aces, but the margin proved to be too large as Queens took a 2-0 lead in the match.

The third set began much like the second with the Royals building a comfortable lead at 20-11. However, the Trojans would go on a 13-4 run tying the set up at 24-24. The set would see three more ties before the Trojans won 29-27.

The final set of play was close until the Royals began to pull away after a timeout. Kills by Harvey and Brittney Barren (Ham Lake, Minn., Blaine) followed by a block error by the visitors forced a timeout from Mount Olive with the score sitting at 14-11 in Queens' favor. From there the Royals strung together a number of short spurts to keep control of the set as they went on to win the match.

Harvey, Gibbs and Hernandez led the Royals' attack with eight, seven and seven kills, respectively. Avery Moore (Arlington, Texas, Lamar) and Dibrell each tallied 18 assists. Jocelyn Kellinger (Roanoke, Va., Cave Spring) notched 11 digs on defense alongside Harvey's seven blocks. Hernandez collected six blocks.
