Volleyball starts season with back-to-back sweeps for 2-0 start

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Queens Volleyball began their season playing host to the Double B Graphix Invite Friday morning and not disappoint. The Royals picked up a pair of sweeps against Johnson C. Smith University (25 -14; 25-19; 25-11) and Saint Augustine's College (25-17; 25-16; 25-22) to start the year 2-0.

The Royals were led by a trio of freshmen throughout the day. Anna Gibbs (Hickory, N.C., Hickory) and Keri Kemp (Lake Mary, Fla., Lake Mary) tallied 13 kills apiece, while Taylor Riley (Lynchburg, Va., E.C. Glass) dished 52 assists in six games. The three also combined for 11 of the team's 20 aces.

Defensively, the Royals found the ball from all angles as eight players accumulated 12-plus digs with Sarah Malpass (Gainesville, Fla., Gainesville) and Alexa Sparrell (Winter Park, Fla., Winter Park) leading the way with 31 and 27 respectively.

The Royals look to keep the excitement at Ovens going when they meet Virginia Union University at 2:00 p.m. and Columbia College (S.C.) at 6:00 p.m.
