CHARLOTTE, N.C. --
Sarah Malpass (Gainesville, Fla., Gainesville) led all players with her career-high 48 digs in the Royals' 1-3 loss at Erskine College Friday night.
Freshmen
Alexa Sparrell (Winter Park, Fla., Winter Park) and
Taylor Riley (Lynchburg, Va., E.C. Glass) had successful nights for the Royals, as they recorded their first career double-doubles.
Sparrell killed 13 of her 27 attempts to hitt .333 while adding 30 digs on the night, while Riley's efforts included 13 digs and 20 assists
Head coach Angela McGuire sited the Royals' execution for the loss.
"Tonight we beat ourselves," said McGuire. "We couldn't handle their serve and as a result it completely took us out of our serve receive and offensive system. When we fail to execute and stay disciplined in that area, we will struggle to find the points in order to win. Some great playing came from freshman outside hitter Alex Sparrell, freshman setter
Taylor Riley, and Sophomore
Sarah Malpass. "
