Women’s basketball crushes Pfeiffer

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens women's basketball team improved their win streak to five games Saturday night, as they defeated the visiting Pfeiffer Lady Falcons 79-54 at Oven Athletics Center. The win brings the within one game of the first place Anderson Trojans in the Conference Carolinas standings.

Freshman Dyonna Battle (Rocky Mount, N.C., Rocky Mount) led all scorers with 15 points on six-of-nine shooting. Marissa Hudley (Charlotte, N.C., Harding University )added 14 points and a game-high eight rebounds in 33:11 of action.

The Lady Falcons struggled to find a rhythm on offense despite three players scoring 11 points or more. Jamila Harris led Pfeiffer with 14 points and six rebounds while collecting two steals in the loss.

Queens led 33-28 at the break thanks to eight second-chance chance points. With the lead bouncing back and forth, a six rebound advantage helped the Royals to a 10-0 run. A cleanly played game supplied only nine combined free throws. With only one more attempt, Queens outshot the Falcons 46% to 38% from the field.

The Royals carried their momentum into the second half with a 26-14 run in the first six minutes. Queens shot an incredible 62% in the second half while holding the Lady Falcons to 33% and just nine made field goals.

The Royals dominated the Lady Falcons on the boards, out rebounding them 39-26. Queens' size contributed to Pfeiffer's struggles on the offensive end as the Royals blocked eight shots in the game.

Queens returns to action Monday afternoon at Mount Olive College with an opportunity to move into first place in the Conference Carolinas.
