CHARLOTTE, N.C.- For the first time in many years Queens University of Charlotte volleyball has opened the season with not one, but two wins. The Royals took on Concord in the first match of the season and the young team took to the court to win. Freshmen Erinn Moore (Longwood, Fla., Lake Mary), Avery Griggs (Hendersonville, N.C., Hendersonville) and Sarah Malpass (Gainesville, Fla., Gainesville) all did their part in every area of the court. Moore recorded 16 assists and four service aces and put up two block assists while Griggs and Malpass each had seven digs. On the attack sophomore Brittany Harvey (Matthews, N.C., Sun Valley ) put the ball down 10 times and on the defensive side she had three block assists. Freshman Keri Kemp (Lake Mary, Fla., Lake Mary) killed the ball seven times.

In the second contest of the day Moore continued to play strong with 28 assists, two aces, 10 digs and six kills. Moore's efforts were joined by Kemp with 12 kills and Harvey hit .500 with 10 kills. Erica Mazur (Waxhaw, N.C., Weddington), Griggs and Malpass combined for 23 digs.

The round-robin tournament hosted by Converse also features J.C. Smith and Converse. Of the five teams, only Queens and Converse went 2-0 on the day. The Conference Carolinas opponents will be tested Saturday afternoon as they face each other to open league play. Queens starts the day with UVA-Wise at 10am and closes the weekend against Converse at 4pm.

The Royals haven't started the season since at least 2000 with a win let alone two. Currently, records are unavailable past the 2001 season.
