CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte volleyball team lost to Conference Carolinas rival St. Andrew Presbyterian in a five-set thriller at Ovens Athletics Center Friday night. After losing the first game 23-26, the Royals battled back to take a 2-1 game lead winning 26-24 and 25-13 respectively. The Knights fought back to win the fourth game 25-19 before leaning on five of Lauren Clements' blocks in the fifth game for a 15-4 victory.
Queens was led by a couple of double-double nights by
Erica Mazur (Waxhaw, N.C., Weddington)(14kills and 18 digs) and
Brittany Harvey (Matthews, N.C., Sun Valley ) (10 kills and 19 digs).
Erinn Moore (Longwood, Fla., Lake Mary) assisted on 40 of the Royals 46 kills while adding four kills and eight digs. Queens had four players patrolling the perimeter accumulating 11+ digs on the night.
St. Andrews relied on a string night from Heather Bolwerk, who tallied a game-high 19 kills and added nine digs. The Knights relied on Jamie Hayes and Kelly Stine to direct the offense with 31 and 15 save a piece. Courtney McDonald led all players with 28 digs on the night.
Queens will be back in action Saturday afternoon as they welcome Coker to Ovens Athletics Center for a 2 p.m. start.
