The Royals improve to 5-4-1 overall.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (October 10, 2009) – The Royals outshot Mount Olive College Saturday afternoon to win 3-0 in a home game at the Queens Sports Complex. Queens University of Charlotte improves to 5-4-1 overall and 2-3-1 in conference play. The Trojans fall to 5-7 overall and 2-4 in conference play.
Freshman Jeremy Chambers (Princeton, W.Va., Princeton Senior) scored the first goal of the day at the 23 minute of play on a fastbreak. Chambers challenged the goalie one on one all the way in to the box and shot the ball in to the right corner of the net for the 1-0 lead. The goal was the only one for the half though Queens took nine shots before the halftime horn sounded.
During the second half of play, Queens came out playing aggressive going after the win. Head Coach Fred Norchi could be heard telling his players to continue playing as if the game was 0-0, and that they did. Tyler Miller (Yadkinville, N.C., Starmount )sliced the ball past the Trojans goal keeper at the 52nd minute of play after Forsan Radwan's (Richmond, Va., James River)shot didn't quite make it to the goal. Radwan would have another chance to score later in the half as Matthew Crane (Belmont, N.C., South Point ) fed him a ball at the top of the box that he fired in to the goal. This third goal for the Royals forced the Trojans into a goal keeper switch as Jamie Carano entered the game for Zac Scott.
Chambers led the Royals with five shots while Radwan had four. Chris Raines (Aurora, Colo., Cherokee Trail) tallied five saves on the day. The Royals finished the game with 17 total shots compared to Mount Olive's 11.
Chris McClaugherty led his team with five shots while Zac Scott notched seven saves.
The Royals are back on the field Tuesday night at Lees-McRae College at 7:00p.m.
